Multiple people were killed when a bus and a semi-trailer crashed on a northwest New Mexico interstate on Thursday afternoon, authorities said.
State Police provided few immediate details about the incident on Interstate 40 near Thoreau, about 100 miles northwest of Albuquerque, including the number of dead and injured.
NBC affiliate KOB of Albuquerque reported that hospitals in nearby Gallup had been alerted to expect eight patients and that University of New Mexico Hospital was expecting six patients. The station reported that Greyhound confirmed that it was one of their buses and that 47 passengers were aboard.
KOB published a photo showing the semi-trailer on its side and the bus off the side of the road with severe damage to its front left side.
