Latino Giant of the Week: Armando Ramirez

My name is Armando Ramirez, and I am currently on my way to being accepted into nursing school. However, it is important to note that my journey to get to where I am today hasn’t always been easy. Over the years in school, my least favorite subjects were math and science. I would do enough just to get by in those classes and never gave it 100 percent.

When I decided to make the change to major in nursing, I had to improve my grades in those areas if I was to have a chance at achieving my goals and dreams. I am proud to admit that along with working much harder and putting in more effort, I’ve been brave enough to ask for help and pointers from others along the way.

As a young boy, I was always afraid to admit that I needed help in anything. Part of being successful and achieving what you want is about asking for guidance and helping others along the way. Because of that, I have not only been more successful in school, but I have made many great friends along the way who have prior experience in what I want to do.

I now stand closer than ever to being accepted into nursing school, having met all the requirements I need. For a long time, I did not believe this was possible. A whole new world is about to be opened to me before my eyes and I cannot help but smile at the thought of a young Puerto Rican kid making it all the way. This goes to show that if I can do it, anybody can do it. All of us have our own personal challenge to overcome. I’ve overcome mine. You can overcome yours too.

Armando Ramirez was born on September 29,1981 to Puerto Rican parents. His father, who served in the Air Force, allowed him to travel around the world and live in many different places. Seeing the world as a young boy has allowed him to open his mind and prepare him for the various challenges he’s faced throughout his life. Armando is currently working towards getting into nursing school, and is determined to fulfill his dreams.
